JERUSALEM POST "Disabled Israeli athlete takes on Paris-Dakar"

The Paris Dakar Rally is undoubtedly the largest, longest, most famous, riskiest and most covered rally in the world. Since the early seventies, every year hundreds of motorcyclists, drivers of cars, trucks, buggies and every other motorized vehicle imaginable, set out from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The contestants drive thousands of exhausting kilometers through difficult terrain in Europe and Africa and complete the competition at the coast of Senegal.

The previous Rally had 600 competitors in the various categories (cars, buggies, trucks, motorcycles etc.), 17 administration planes, 8 helicopters, 140 T.V. crews, 100 reporters etc. Only a third of the competitors actually complete the rally.

The Rally lasts for approximately 20 days, during which the world’s best drivers drive and ride between 600 to 1,000 km per day, over rocks, through sand dunes and along green savannahs. This enormous production is reviewed daily by Euro Sport, the national French T.V and receives extensive coverage by many other radio and T.V. stations around the world.

Dror Cohen, a former F-16 pilot, is setting out for the world’s most difficult and prestigious off-road motor race. He intends to be the first Israeli paraplegic to finish the race.
